Emergency Dental Procedure

by Damian Sofsian

In case a tooth is accidentally partially knocked out, you must not try and pull it out harshly if the tooth has not fully come out. The tooth must be gently inserted and held in its socket until you see a dentist. In the event that you bite your tongue, you must apply pressure directly to the bleeding area with a clean cloth, and if the lip is swollen, you can apply cold compresses to reduce the swelling. If bleeding does not stop, you must get to a dental hospital emergency room, as soon as possible.

Another emergency situation centers on braces and retainers. If a wire is causing soreness and irritation, cover the end of the wire with a small cotton ball until you can get to the dentist. If a part of the brace breaks off, take the appliance and the piece along with you to the dentist. If you have a nasty fall and suspect a broken jaw, secure the jaw in place by trying a cloth around the jaw and over the head. If you see swelling, apply cold compresses and go immediately to a hospital emergency room.

Always remember to keep your dentist’s phone number in case emergency dental.

How Dental Insurance works:

Discount Plans has been around for a long time, but many consumers do not understand the difference between discounted plans and insurance. With insurance the patient pays a monthly premium, typically $50 – $150 or more per month. When ever the insured patient visits the Dentist, the insuring company pays a portion of the bill, usually with a direct payment to the treating office. The insured client usually will have a deductible of $100 or more which must be paid out before the Insurance Company pays. With insurance there are usually exemptions, where certain types of costly procedures are no covered, such as braces or cosmetic procedures. A Better Option:

One of the options to consumers is the Discount Plan. In fact many Insurance companies today are offering discounted plans to their clients. The Discount Organization contracts with local Dentists to provide their services at a discounted rate.

Why would a Dentist accept a discounted fee for their services? Having plan members referred also eliminates the need to pay expensive advertising costs, as the company sends them a steady stream of new patients.

The amount depends on the procedure. Bottom line with these plans, the Dentist and member both win.

Options for Emergency Dental Care Service:

1. Investigate getting a Discounted Plan with no waiting period.
2. Contact an Emergency Dentist in your area for a visit.
3. If on the weekend and there are no other options, go to the pharmacy and purchase Ora-Gel for the tooth pain or get to the hospital emergency room if the pain in the teeth persists.
