When we talk about dental teeth care many people think about that trip to the dentists every 6 months. You DO go to the dentist regularly don’t you? OK, may of us don’t because of the time involved or expense. The second best way to protect your teeth is to follow a regular dental care regimen at home. This would include not only brushing your teeth with a quality toothbrush but also using some type of dentifrice or toothpaste and regular use of dental floss. Flossing is probably the least used but most effective way to clean areas of your teeth that cannot be reached with brushing alone.

In the late 1800′s, toothpaste and dental teeth care become a growth industry for many smaller companies. We now know that these types of toothpastes or powders actually damaged teeth because of the abrasive nature of the ingredients.

By 1900, baking soda made it’s way into commercial toothpaste products along with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide solution. This was probably the very beginnings of teeth whitening products for the mass market. The Colgate & Company manufactured toothpaste in the first collapsible tube, similar to the tubes we use today. Although tooth powders, a pre cursor product to toothpaste didn’t show up on the market until this time, it wasn’t until the mid 1950-1960 that modern toothpaste that we recognize became the teeth cleaner of choice.

Fluoride started to be added to toothpastes in the 1950 and 1960’s. Toothpaste comes in a variety of flavors, with those marketed to kids! So for a good brushing, use a quality toothpaste and soft bristle brush.

Here four step procedure how is tray based teeth whitening technique done to the patient
1. A whitening gel is poured all over a tray that just fits over the teeth of the patient.
2. The active ingredient inside the gel, carbamide peroxide will be broken down sp that oxygen can enter the enamel to bleach the discolored areas.
3. By this, the physical structure of each tooth is not actually transformed. Crowns, fillings, and Bonding will not lighten but the colored substances will.
4. Casts or impressions of the tray are customized by dentists. The accuracy of the trays is critical to the treatment

How safe is the method?

Most dentists agree that tray bleaching or whitening is relatively safe, fast, provides easy ways to lighten teeth between two and five shades in a matter of few days.

How is this different from other professional whitening systems?
1. BriteSmile (gas plasma light/light emitting diode)
2. LaserSmile (a Biolase laser)
3. LumaArch (halogen light)
4. Rembrandt Sapphire (plasma arc light)
5. Zoom! (metal halide light)

Know About Dental Whitening Products

Executive summary by Mike Selvon

Dental Whitening

If you have stained or discolored teeth and are considering a whitening gel or bleaching agent, you’re probably wondering which of the many dental whitening products available are best for you.

Dental whitening products are substances that when applied to the teeth will cause them to appear whiter.

Teeth stains can be intrinsic, meaning that they affect the deep parts of the enamel or extrinsic, which is a superficial staining of the tooth surface – or both. These dental aid products may be either:

Bleaching: these use peroxide in order to penetrate the tooth enamel and remove deep-seated intrinsic stains, or

Non-bleaching: these are products that use a chemical reaction in order to remove superficial extrinsic stains on the surface enamel. Whitening gel is an example.

Isn’t That Toxic?

Actually, hydrogen peroxide – scientifically known as dihydrogen dioxide – is not much more than plain water with an extra oxygen atom. Hydrogen peroxide is H2O2. Because oxygen is highly corrosive, H2O2 acts as a weak acid, which is why it works well in tooth whitening gels and other dental ail products. In small amounts, hydrogen peroxide is harmless and even antiseptic.

Laser Teeth Whitening

How does the process of laser teeth whitening works?

1. Teeth cleaning.

The dental expert will begin the process by first cleaning your teeth. This is important because plaque and germs that are present in your teeth will have a major effect on the whitening process.

The result of the treatment is greatly affected by the present condition of your teeth. That is why they have to be cleaned first and foremost.

2. Application of whitening gel and laser treatment.

Once your teeth are cleaned, the dentist will put the whitening gel on your teeth. After the gel is applied, you will then be readied and positioned for the laser treatment.

The purpose of the laser here is to enhance the whitening process of the gel. Without laser, it would take several minutes or hours before the gel can penetrate your teeth. With laser, the whitening ingredients in the gel are immediately activated so that it will produce results in a matter of seconds.

For extreme cases of discoloration, one session is not enough to achieve the desired result. Sometimes, the person is told to come back again for some more sessions before the changes in the teeth color will become noticeable.

But for those who have mild teeth discoloration, a session is oftentimes enough.

Is laser whitening for everyone?

Like all professional teeth whitening treatment, you can expect to pay a higher price for it. Laser teeth whitening can be as expensive as the dentist-assisted method.

If you are used to the whitening products that you can buy from stores, you will be surprised at the cost that laser teeth whitening.

It can be noted that the price vary depending on the dentist and the clinic performing the treatment. If you want to get the best deal out of your money, you can do some extra research to find out which one is offering a competitive price.

Over the internet, you will be given choices of laser teeth whitening clinics to choose.
